DANCE PROGRAM

Technique Class Attendance

The dance program at Mather Dancer Center offers various technique classes for the undergraduate student. It is imperative that all policies with regard to attendance, attire, and other aspects be adhered to in order to maintain a proper learning environment, a clean studio and safe working conditions.

Each student is responsible for familiarizing themselves with these policies and adhering to them. Teachers are not required to remind students of these policies. Failure to adhere to any of these policies could result in a reduction of your final grade.

Attendance

Attendance is mandatory for all classes. Each student must be dressed and prepared to start participation in class at the designated start time of each class.

Absences

Each student is allowed only two (2) unexcused absences. Excused absences must be PREARRANGED with the teacher. Only two (2) excused absences are allowed. Additional absences beyond the number specified will result in a 5% reduction in final grade.

Tardiness

A student who is more than 10 minutes late to class will be marked with an unexcused absence and may be required to observe class. (See Unexcused Absence above)

Make up Classes

There are no dance program policies for make up classes. Consult your teacher to discuss any possible options in extenuating circumstances only.

Attire

Appropriate attire is required in all technique classes. (See Technique Class Attire)

Shoes and Personal Belongings

Shoes are NOT allowed in any studio at any time. Do not leave shoes or ANY personal belongings in the lobby - the dance program is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Coats must be hung on the coat rack. In the lobby, shoes are only allowed under the benches. It is advised that you take your personal belongings into the studio with you during your class. You may leave your shoes in the downstairs hallway or in the lockers in the locker room.

Locks and Locker Room

You may lock your belongings and shoes in a unused locker in the locker room using your personal lock ONLY during the time of your class. You may not leave any lock or personal belongings in any locker beyond your class for there are not enough lockers for all students. Locks left on lockers will be removed and contents will be confiscated.

Food/Drink

No food or drink of any kind is allowed in any of the studios. Bottled water may be used but, it must be in a secure container only consumed at the side of the studio.

ID Cards/Building Access

Due to security issues, access to Mather Dance Center is controlled by card access. You are responsible for ensuring that you ID card has sufficient rights assigned to it so as to have access to the building for your class. If you do not, consult your teacher immediately. The grace period in which someone will open the door for you is VERY short.

Electronic Devices

Cell phones, pagers and any other devices that may create a distrubance in the class are not permitted. These devices should be switched off before entering class. Failure to comply more than twice will result in being marked an unexcused absence for that class meeting time.
