MILESTONE DANCE CONCERT BEGINS 100TH
CELEBRATION YEAR
For the Mather Dance Center at Case Western Reserve University
The Mather Dance Center at Case Western Reserve University launches its centennial
year with the fall concert, “Milestone,” on November 9, 10, 15, 16 and 17 at 8 p.m.,
with a Sunday matinee, November 11, at 2:30 p.m. at the dance center, 11201 Bellflower Rd. The concert features a diverse
mix of new and restaged choreography by the university’s distinguished dance program
faculty and guest artists.
The
Milestone Program:
Associate Professor Gary Galbraith
treads into new territory by combining technology with dance choreography in innovative
ways. MDC, his new work that is staged
in recognition of the Centennial at Mather Dance, intertwines the real and virtual
worlds. The piece will include a large cast of undergraduate and graduate
dancers.
The dance program continues with the featured work of Wien, a sextet from
the repertory of renowned New York choreographer Pascal
Rioult, artistic director of the Pascal Rioult Dance Theater. Restaged
with undergraduate and graduate dance students and set to the music of Maurice Ravel’s
La Valse, Wien
is an interpretation
of a society’s downward spiral and the nature of the human condition.
The fall production includes Inamorata,
a new trio choreographed by Richard Dickinson,
noted lecturer of ballet in the dance program and also the artistic director of
Ballet Western Reserve of Youngstown. The dance is a conceptual piece
for three dancers—Chan U Hong, Heather Koniz and Sheau-Feng Luo—that showcases aspects
of dynamics between men and women.
Director of the Dance Program Karen Potter
is restaging her dance The Pleiades for undergraduate and graduate dance
students. It is a glimpse of the memorable myth of the seven sisters.
“Blank Canvas” heralds the return of MFA alumna Kelli Sanford to the Mather Dance
stage. Sanford, a part-time lecturer
in the dance program, was inspired by “Convergence #10,” the 1952 drip painting
by Jackson Pollock and a visit to the painter’s Long Island home and studio, in
choreographing this solo dance work.
General Admission is $10; seniors and Case Western Reserve University personnel,
$7; and Students, $5. For tickets and
information, call the theater and dance department box office at 216-368-6262.
